FMA (Filipino Martial Arts) Stick Fighting - Group Classes
Stick fighting is non-firearm related training. While in most martial arts that I have taken including Okinawan Karate, Hapkido, Aikido, and even Brazilian JiuJitsu, weapons training is reserved late in your journey. Sometimes not introduced until you make black belt or learn through private lessons. In the Filipino Martial Arts, weapons come first. This introduction to weapons from the start teach attributes that can be carried over to empty hand training. Some of the attributes include body mechanics, line familiarization, footwork, use of either hand, proper distance, and many others. Stick fighting is applicable to any long tool that might be at hand whether that is an umbrella, cane, hammer, or even a rolled up newspaper.
You will learn simple, practical techniques employed to end an engagement and escape to safety. This class is designed for participants wanting some self-defense principles and techniques without having to go through years of training. But, ongoing instruction will definitely make you a more effective and competent defender.
Tuition is $50 for 4 classes (1 month) or $20 for a single drop-in class; First class is free.

When we work towards “fighting” it is through play called sparring that we gradually ramp up our training. Eventually we can use full protective gear to simulate full contact fighting.
